Jury Gets Pileggi Case
Jury deliberations have begun in the case of former Eastchester Police officer James Pileggi.
The 30 year old Pileggi is charged with second degree manslaughter in the death of Andre Everett of New Rochelle on November 3, 2009.
Pileggi claims he was trying to take apart what he thought was an unloaded gun when the off-duty weapon discharged, striking Everett in the throat and killing him instantly.
Prosecutors allege that Pileggi had a history of recklessness with guns and failed to take proper safety precautions. Last week, he took the witness stand in his own defense and testifed that he was trying to show Everett a laser device on the gun when it went off.
The jury heard readback of some testimony after getting the case Monday afternoon. It returns for deliberations on Tuesday morning.
Pileggi resigned from the Eastchester police force shortly after the fatal shooting.
