More Calls For Federal Investigation Into Pace Student Shooting
A Pace University student who was in the car with Danroy Henry the night he was shot by police and who was himself spoke out for the first time today.
Brandon Cox held a news conference in Pleasantville outside Lucio's Pizza where he had had dinner with Henry just hours before he was shot and killed. Cox told reporters that his best friend Henry was more like a brother to him than a friend. Said Cox, "My world has been turned upside down ever since this incident."
His stepfather, Tom Parks, questioned the inquiry into the tragic killing, saying he has "a fair amount of skepticism," and he "does not think the Mount Pleasant Police department can be objective enough" about the investigation . Parks went on to say he is calling "on the Justice Department to get involved and "to safeguard the evidence before it's tainted or the rest of it is destroyed."
Mount Pleasant Police officials maintain that there was no impropriety on the part of the officers involved in the deadly shooting. They say the officers opened fire after Henry plowed into them with his car in front of Finnegan's Grill, tossing one of them onto the windshield, and forcing them to use deadly force.
Over the past few weeks, details were leaked out to the media that blood taken from Henry indicated he was legally drunk at the time he was shot. That disputed reports from eyewitnesses who claim they were with Henry at the bar that night and said he was not drinking and was instead the designated driver. Subsequent blood tests ordered by the attorney for the Henry family, Michael Sussman, reportedly confirmed that Henry was intoxicated.
A large rally is planned Sunday at the Westchester County Center in White Plains to call for a Federal investigation into the shooting.
