Fire Claims the Life of a Yorktown Woman

Fire officials say an elderly Yorktown woman was killed tonight following a fast moving blaze at her home at 2957 Mead Street.

The fire was first reported around 7 p.m. after neighbors spotted flames coming from roof of the two story home.  Firefighters removed the victim's remains. She has not been identified, pending notification of family, but neighbors say she was 70 years old and lived alone at the home.

The cause of the blaze is still under investigation, but officials say it does not appear to have been  suspicious in origin.

The victim was removed by the Westchester County Medical Examiner's office. An autopsy is planned to determine the cause of death.
