Cortlandt Man Charged With Theft of Road Salt

ImageA Cortlandt Manor man, who worked for the Yonkers Department of Public Works, was arraigned today on Official Misconduct and Petit Larceny charges for allegedly stealing road salt from his employer.

Prosecutors allege 50 year old Edward Maier of 66 Putnam Road, Cortlandt Manor, while on duty, used a DPW-issued key to unlock the gate to the DPW salt dome at 324 Tuckahoe Road on January 17, 2011 around 11:45 p.m. and stole about a ton of  salt belonging to the City of Yonkers and filled a privately-owned salt spreader truck.  The truck was stopped a short time later by Yonkers Police.

Maier's due back in court May 18. He faces a m aximum of one year in the County Jail on each of the counts if convicted.
