Cleaning Lady Steals, Switches Diamond From Ring in South Salem Home

State Police in Somers say a cleaning woman from Danbury,CT has been arrested on 3rd degree Grand  Larceny charges after she allegedly removed a diamond from a platinum engagement ring at a home she was cleaning and then switched it with a fake one. The diamond was valued at $8,000, according to officials.

Police say the incident took place on December 30,2010 as 37 year old Monica Ferriera Lopes was cleaning a home in South Salem while  employed by Grasso Cleaning Service of Danbury.

Police say Lopes, a Brazilian national in the country illegally, is also being held on an immigration detatiner from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Immigrations and Customs Enforcement.

Lopes was arraigned and remanded to the Westchester County jail on $10,000 bail. She is due back in the Town of Lewisboro Court on Monday.
