Police Identify Yorktown Woman Killed in Fire
Yorktown Police have now identified the woman killed in a fast-moving fire at a home at 2965 Mead Street. Officials say the woman was 78 year old Nancy Lockheart.
Fire officials discovered the woman's body in a second floor room of the home.
According to police and fire officials, the blaze was accidental and was sparked by an overheated extension cord. Firefighters said the house was packed with furniture, trash and clutter, making it difficult for them to reach Lockhart, who lived alone.
Armed Men Rob Woman in Harrison
Police are on the hunt for two men this afternoon who they say robbed a woman at gunpoint as she left the Chase Bank Branch on Halstead Avenue.
Details are sketchy, but police said the woman was robbed as she got into her car on Purdy Avenue. It's unclear what and how much was taken. She was uninjured.
The armed robbers fled on foot, and possibly escaped in a nearby car.
The area around Purdy and Halstead Avenue has been cordoned off as police investigate.
Police have not released a description of the assailants.
Mount Vernon Man Charged With Larceny in Insurance Scam
A Mount Vernon man is in trouble with the law after police say he attempted to defraud an insurance company by obtaining collision insurance after he was involved in an accident and then falsifying the time the accident actually occurred.
22 year old Jeffrey Lincoln is accused of filing a claim for $7,000 worth of repairs under a collision insurance policy that he obtained several hours after he was involved in an accident on the Hutchinson River Parkway in Mount Vernon.
Cops say shortly after the accident, Lincoln used a mobile phone to go online and upgrade his insurance policy from liability insurance-only to a comprehensive package that included collision coverage with the Esurance Insurance Company.
Lincoln was arrested Monday and charged with 3rd Degree Attempted Grand Larceny and 1st Degree Identity Theft, both felonies.
Yonkers Police Release Poster of Missing Man
Police in Yonkers are looking to the public for help in finding a missing city man. On 01-29-11, 3rd Precinct Officers completed a missing persons report for a male named Heriberto Chavez, a 25 year old male who resides at 75 Livingston Avenue in Yonkers. Mr. Chavez is reported to be schizophrenic. He was last seen at his place of employment (“Rainwater Grill” in Hastings-on-Hudson) on January 28th at 1:05 AM. Mr. Chavez is 5’7” tall, 180 pounds, black hair, and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing black “Polo” jeans. The Yonkers Police Department Youth Division is actively investigating this missing person report and anyone with information can contact them at 914-377-7293.
Mamaroneck Police: White Plains Man a Suspect in Murder of Village Woman
Police in the Village of Mamaroneck say a man considered a suspect inthe murder of 49 year old Jennifer Katz has been arrested after he was found driving her car in Harlem.
Police say 54 year old Reginald Powell of White Plains was pulled over by the NYPD December 30 for a traffic violation . He's since been charged with 2nd Degree Burglary, a felony.
At the time,officials say, Powell was not only in possession of Katz's vehicle, but also miscellaneous property belonging to the victim.
Powell has been arraigned and is currently being held without bail at the Westchester County Jail.
Village Police say he is a suspect in the ongoing homicide investigation. Additional charges, they say, may be forthcoming.
Officials have been tight-lipped about the cause of Katz's death.
The Village of Mamaroneck Police Department and the Westchester County District Attorney's Office is continuing to investigate the case.

Woman Murdered in Village of Mamaroneck Identified
Police in the Village of Mamaroneck are investigating the apparent murder of a woman whose body was found last night in at a residence in the village.
Cops say the victim, identified as 49 year old Jennifer Katz was found dead at a home on Baldwin Place at 11 p.m. Thursday. Further investigation revealed she had been the victim of a homicide.
3 Injured in Double Hit and Run in White Plains
A man is in critical condition and two others hurt following what police are calling a double hit and run in White Plains.
Public Safety Commissioner David Chong says the incident began around 4 a.m. Sunday when a man was struck and seriously injured by a red car, as he was crossing the street at 120 East Post Road. Then, two good samaritans who went to his aid were also struck and injured by a man driving a black vehicle.
