Political newcomer Dr. Nan Hayworth scored an upset victory over incumbent Democratic Congressman John Hall in the 19th Congressional District race Tuesday night. Hayworth defeated Hall 53-47%. During her victory speech in Fishkill, Hayworth promised to hit the ground running, saying "The Federal government that has been weighing on us like a stone is gonna be lifted. We are gonna shrink it and get it tamed and under control."

During his concession speech, Congressman Hall vowed to help Hayworth make a smooth transition, saying, "After the dust has settled and we've gotten some rest, my staff and I would be happy to hand off to her and her staff any ongoing casework or projects that we had in the works, something that was not offered to me by my predecessor, but should be to all incoming representatives in the interest of the people."

The 37th State Senate District race between longtime incumbent  Suzi Oppenheimer and Bob Cohen is too close to call. At last look with 80% of the precincts reporting, the two were tied at 50%, with Oppenheimer leading by a slim 180 point margin.  Cohen addressed his supporters late Monday evening, "We  are very hopeful that we are going to finish this out sometime tonight  or maybe in the next couple of days, but whatever," adding, "I've waited eight months,I could wait another couple or three days."

The latest RNN-TV/Westchester County Association Poll taken by Iona College in the 19th Congressional District race still shows incumbent Congressman John Hall (D, WF) and Dr. Nan Hayworth(R,C) are in a dead heat.

The survey of likely voters found 44% of those questioned would vote for Hayworth, while 43% said John Hall. 13% of those questioned remained undecided. A previous poll had 42% of voters chosing Hayorth, 42% John Hall and 16% undecided.

Poll coordinator, Dr. Jeanne Zaino, with Iona College said "This is as close as it gets. Hayworth has inched ahead a bit with some previously undecideds going her way, but this is still anybody's race."

The poll has a margin of error of plus/minus 4 points.

Attorney General and Democratic State Gubernatorial candidate Andrew Cuomo today endorsed Congressman John Hall, State Senator Suzi Oppenheimer and Westchester County Legislator Michael Kaplowitz, who's running for State Senate.

Speaking at a rally held at Bedford Town Hall, Cuomo endorsed Hall in his bid for re-election in the 19th Congressional District Race and Kaplowitz in his bid to become State Senator in the 40th District. In endorsing Hall, Cuomo said voters need to re-elect him over his opponent, Republican Nan Hayworrth because, "We have  to protect Medicare and Social Security in this nation, protect a woman's right to choose and bring money  to New York."

"John is going to do that," he added.

Cuomo called for the re-election of longtime State Senator Suzi Oppenheimer, saying she has been "rock solid" in Albany. He called Kaplowitz, who's running against Republican Assemblyman  Greg Ball for the State Senate seat formerly held by Vincent Leibell, "a man we desperately need to get into the State Senate. I need a State Senate I can work with, one that will bring reform to Albany."

Cuomo went on to note that, "At one time, New York had the best state government in the nation. Other states used to follow the example of New York State. The fact that the New York State government has turned into an embarrassment is a national tragedy."

With less than three weeks to go before election day the Siena College survey found 46% of likely voters supporting Nan Hayworth, while 43% back incumbent Congressman John Hall. The poll has a margin of error of four percentage points.

A new Iona College/Westchester County Association/RNN-TV Poll finds the two candidates in the 19th Congressional District Race are in a dead heat.

The poll, taken October 6, questioned more than 10,000 likely voters and found 42% planned to vote for incumbent Democratic Congressman John Hall, while 42% supported his Republican/Conservative challenger Dr. Nan Hayworth. 16% were undecided. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.75%. Among those undecided, 34% are Democrats, 38% Republicans and 23% have no party affiliation.

The 19th Congressional District is regarded as one of the key mid-term races in the U.S. Congress. It includes Northern Westchester and parts of Dutchess, Orange and Rockland Counties.

Hall and Hayworth are scheduled to participate in a debate sponsored by the Westchester county Association and RNN-TV on Wednesday at 800 Westchester Avenue in Rye Brook.

U.S. Congressman John Hall (D-19) met today with retired Peekskill Dectective Charlie Wassil who was sickened after working at Ground Zero.

Detective Wassil, who is being cared for at Bethel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Croton-on-Hudson, suffers from advanced sarcoidosis, and recently became partially paralyzed due to the condition.

Hall visited the disabled 9/11 responder to explain the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act recently enacted in the House of Representatives. The measure has yet to be approved in the Senate. Various published reports suggest the Senate is poised to fast-track the bill in the next few weeks.

Thousands of first responders and others  were exposed to toxins at Ground Zero and are now ill as a result. They include firefighters, rescue workers, responders, police officers, construction workers and even nearby school children who breathed in the dust emanating from the rubble and toxins made airborne in the fire.
